A senior employee at a leading Suffolk-based precast concrete manufacturer, is about to embark on two separate charity swims where he will cover over 52,000 metres in total.

Tim Evans, director – bespoke products at Poundfield Products, part of SigmaRoc and AIM-listed company, which is based at Creeting St Peter, turned 50 over the summer and having reached that milestone pledged to raise money for two charities close to his heart: The Roy Castle Lung Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

The watery theme is appropriate as a significant element of Tim’s professional expertise is to oversee the manufacture, delivery and installation of the firm’s concrete products for coastal defence projects. Tim is also responsible for Poundfield’s manufacture of precast units for everything from railway platforms, infrastructure units and car parks to plinths for the increasing number of fun trails popping up in British towns and cities.

In the last year alone Poundfield has supplied high quality concrete units to projects in Scotland, the north east and south coast of England – as well as to the new Ipswich Tidal Barrier in the firms’ home county.

Tim’s first challenge is a marathon swim (26.2 miles or 42,165 metres) spread out over the whole of November in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Foundation. Tim will be swimming a mile a day throughout the month, with Sundays being rest days.

He will also be taking Saturday 10 November off – in this particular case to complete his second challenge: a long distance swim of 10,000 metres which has to be completed in one session.

Tim will be doing this in the Olympic Pool in Stratford, London and will be covering the distance on his own, whilst the event is more usually tackled by a team.

According to Tim: “November will be a really busy month for me, but I hope that I can raise as much money as possible for two absolutely brilliant charities that support research into treatments and cures for cancer

As I’m clocking up the lengths, I’ll be thinking about all those Poundfield projects I’ve worked on that are designed to keep the waves at bay and hoping that I can keep my head above the water during the 52,000 metres I’ll be covering!”

Matt Moss, finance director at Poundfield Products, applauded Tim’s fundraising efforts: “everyone at Poundfield is behind Tim as he embarks on these swimming challenges. We wish him well and hope as many of his work colleagues, family and friends can sponsor him as possible!”
