About Clare
I hail from West Yorkshire originally but have now lived in Felixstowe, in Suffolk, for more than 30 years. I do, however, still consider myself a northerner! I’m a fully qualified horse-riding instructor and worked with horses for many years before moving on to shipping and logistics for a while.
My husband, Danny, is an amputee and ex Household Cavalry Trooper. We have been lucky enough to attend a few ‘dos’ at Buckingham and St James’s Palaces in the past. I’m surprised we were let in!
In 2017, my love for animals took me on to opening a dog daycare creche in Sproughton. It’s still going strong and growing every day.
Q&As
Describe yourself in three words? Resilient, caring and strong.
What was your first job? Working behind the bar in my dad’s Tetley pub. I guess I was underage at 14!
What frustrates you? People who don’t listen!
How do you spend your leisure time? My husband and I own two nutty English Bull Terriers, and I spend a lot of spare time walking them. We have rescued three in the last ten years, and they can be a handful, but it’s very rewarding, most of the time. I also enjoy going to lots of gigs and concerts when I get time – the last one was Madonna.
What’s your favourite television programme? My hubby and I love Gogglebox and are seriously thinking about writing in to go on it.
What’s your favourite food? Is it too weird to say I love porridge?
What food do you hate? Sprouts. Green little devils.
What is your biggest weakness? I’m a sucker for a shiny, sparkly handbag!
Where are you happiest? Walking my dogs, miles from anywhere or anyone.
What was the first record you bought? I grew up in pubs, and was spoilt as I had access to the jukebox all the time, so never really bought any records.
At school, what were you good at? Not PE that’s for sure! Probably biology – I was decent at that.
What one material thing could you not do without? Music, so my Echo Dot.
You’d go to a fancy-dress party as? Someone from the 80s probably…
What poster did you have on your bedroom wall as a child? Probably a David Attenborough ‘Animals of Britain’ poster. I loved animals and had loads of rabbits and guinea pigs as a child.
How many attempts before you passed your driving test? I passed 2nd time. First time I braked for a cat!
