It is easy to forget just how essential teamwork is to the way we live today.

As the smartest animal on Earth, undoubtedly our greatest insight is that by working together we can achieve things that would as individuals be impossible.

Of course, this wisdom did not just pop up during one of our ancestors’ regular brainstorming sessions around the campfire. It was more likely a rather brutal path of trial and error. The winners – the ones that survived – were those predisposed to collaborating…and here we all are.

Division of Labour

Today’s complicated world is only made possible by the division of labour on a large scale. This process is what creates a civilisation. The only way we can advance is by becoming more ‘civilised’, or by working together in teams.

For example, you might be part of a team responsible for producing just one advanced semiconductor chip. You can dedicate your time to this specific project, safe in the knowledge that hundreds of thousands of other people can be trusted to provide you with reliable access to food, water and shelter. Plus, electricity, transportation, raw materials, maybe some entertainment, and so the list goes on…

At Charles Stanley, we have been part of a team supporting business owners and their families since 1792. First as bankers, providing financing to entrepreneurs, then as stockbrokers and wealth managers, stewarding their wealth and supporting their families over generations.

Personalised Planning

Our team of investment managers in the Norwich office are continuing this tradition of being part of a ‘circle of trust’ for business owners and their families – working with lawyers, accountants and financial planners to provide a truly individual plan. Whether it’s personal tax and estate planning, business exit options or retirement planning, having a trusted team of professionals ensures that your ambitions in business also make sense in the context of your personal circumstances.

Focus on Finance

A common challenge for many business owners is that they spend more time working ‘in’ their business rather than ‘on’ their business. It is therefore no surprise that time spent ‘on’ their personal and family plans, as well as succession and inheritance plans, is often limited or non-existent. Establishing relationships with professionals early on – certainly well before any business exit for example – can provide useful insights and options which might otherwise not have been considered.

The value of investments, and any income derived from them, can fall as well as rise. Investors may get back less than originally invested. Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
