Logistics: Tom Maddison, Buckle Shipping
A dependable, family-run business that our clients can turn to at all times and expect unwavering dedication, commitment and efficiency, whatever the economic weather.
Over the last half a century, as well as delivering exceptional levels of customer service, we have continually looked at how we can improve, innovate and grow as a business, and make a difference in the process.
The opening in September of a state-of-the-art warehouse represents a huge milestone in our journey, consolidating our legacy and expanding horizons, as well as providing customers with enhanced services while demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.
A warehouse with a difference
This new carbon neutral warehouse at Port One logistics park in Great Blakenham offers 78,000 sq. ft. of floorspace to store goods, harnessing varying height spaces to rack up to eight pallets high. There’s a mezzanine for bulkier items and it can accommodate diverse storage requirements up to at least 12,000 pallets. Yet, what really sets it apart is the added benefit of an onsite container lift, maximising efficiency and convenience at the same time. In addition to HMRC accreditation as a fully-bonded warehouse, there are also plans to handle food items with BRC Global Food Safety certification.
Buckle Shipping is one of the longest established freight forwarding companies at the Port of Felixstowe and many of our customers have been with the business since it began. Central to this is the fact that the company still operates as a family-run business with a great team of people offering a personal approach.
What was started by Partners, John Cusworth and Ian Buckle, continues today with John’s son, Andrew Cusworth, at the helm as MD, while Ian’s son, Tom Buckle, is a Director taking an active role in the business and its evolution. The dedicated, hard-working staff are committed to delivering the highest standards of service to each and every customer, and the team has expanded significantly recently. Three years ago, there were nine employees – today, that number has more than trebled to 29.
Location, location, location
With direct access to junction 52 of the A14, the main arterial route for the region linking Felixstowe and other east coastal ports with onward routes, we are perfectly positioned for nationwide logistics coverage as well as access to international markets. And our investment in a cutting-edge storage facility at Port One, just 20 minutes away, builds on our prime strategic location.
Port One is set to become the most centrally located site in the entire Freeport East zone. After a successful bid to become one of several UK freeports, it will operate outside normal Customs rules with the aim of boosting international trade, as well as providing tax, planning and business incentives.
As Buckle Shipping prepares for the next chapter, the forecast is looking extremely good.
