Blog: How digital-first agencies are stealing clients from traditional ones

When it comes to digital versus traditional, it’s just inevitable that digital is winning in the race to gain customers? Old-school agencies that have been around forever, just general agencies all across different industries, like marketing, creative, interior design, real estate, a lot of them are confused by the fact that clients, even long-term clients, are leaving them when nothing has changed.

But you see, that’s exactly the problem, nothing has actually changed.

In the meantime, those more tech-friendly agencies are swooping in and grabbing clients at a fairly fast rate. Is it because they are cheaper? Is it may be due to offshoring? Are they offering more services? While it mostly depends on each industry, it’s fairly apparent that it’s about being modern, they want to reach growth milestones, it’s about “staying in the loop”, and keeping up with technology. Basically, not being stuck in the whole pre-smartphone era.

Clients just want fast, smooth, and digital

What is important to remember is that right now people are impatient. Feel free to just blame the internet or phones, or life speeding up, but that’s just where things are. So yes, clients want fast replies, quick onboarding, simple processes, and the ability to do as much as possible online. And, if an agency is still sending PDFs as if it’s 2011, asking for printed signatures, or taking two days to reply because everything’s done manually, it doesn’t feel “professional”, it feels outdated and a bit tiring too.

Nowadays, more digitally focused agencies use client portals, automation, online booking systems, project dashboards, AI, or even just streamlined comms instantly. It feels nice, it feels updated, and businesses want that for their business; it’s that simple.

Tech shows clients you’re not stuck in the past

Alright, so a big part of why digital-first agencies stand out is the immediate vibe they give off. You can tell from their website, their onboarding, or even their email style that they’re actually keeping up with how business runs today. Yeah, things just feel clean, organised, and thought through. That alone makes clients feel confident. And it’s covering all industries, just go ahead and look at real estate for example.

So, those traditional agencies that used to run everything with paper files and phone calls are now switching to tools like estate agent software to automate work and keep clients updated without the messy back and forth. To compete, they need to work online, making listings, booking appointments etc.

Old methods make clients feel drained

Do you really want that for your clients? Probably not. But outdated systems don’t just slow things down, they drain the joy out of the whole experience and understandably, people just don’t have the patience for that anymore. Digital-first agencies win because they make the client journey feel smooth from day one. Basically, everything is quick and transparent, which at this point in time is the bare minimum you need to stay ahead in business.
