Dipples and Jarrolds have traded as neighbours for more than one hundred and thirty two years and the collaboration marks a significant moment for the city’s independent retail scene. Not forgetting both businesses are owned and run by their respective fifth and seventh generations of the founding families.
The new Dipples showroom will introduce a carefully curated selection of jewellery and watches presented within a contemporary and welcoming space on the Jarrolds shop floor. Visitors will be able to explore leading jewellery designers including Georg Jensen, FOPE and Kit Heath, alongside the Dipples signature diamond collection, that has been developed over several generations of the family business.
The watch range will bring together respected brands such as Seiko, Garmin, Herbelin and Mondaine. The showroom has been designed to give customers time and space to explore pieces in comfort. Seating areas will allow visitors to enjoy private consultations, discuss bespoke commissions or take advice on repairs and valuations. The aim is to create a calm and enjoyable environment that reflects the heritage of Dipples, while introducing a fresh experience for Jarrolds customers. There are also plans to add pop-up jewellery and watch brands that will also appear from time to time – so watch the Dipples space.
The partnership is rooted in a shared history in the Norwich community. Dipples first opened its doors in the nineteenth century and has remained a constant presence in the city ever since. Jarrolds has followed a similar path, growing into one of the country’s most respected independent department stores. Both organisations have built their reputations on personal service, long term relationships with customers and an understanding of what makes Norwich unique.
The new showroom celebrates this heritage with the space shaped to feel open and engaging with displays that showcase the craftsmanship and story behind each collection. Visitors can expect thoughtful touches, a trained team ready to offer guidance and the hallmark Dipples attention to detail that has become familiar to generations of customers.
Tim Shattock, Managing Director said: “Our partnership with Dipples feels like a natural fit and an exciting moment for Jarrolds. As two long-established family businesses with strong roots in Norwich, we share a commitment to quality, craftsmanship and great personal service. This new showroom offers our customers the chance to explore exceptional jewellery and watches in a beautifully designed space, supported by expert knowledge. It also celebrates two Norfolk businesses coming together to create something unique for the city and the wider county.”
Chris Ellis, Dipples Managing Director said: “We’ve designed the space within Jarrolds to be more immersive, so people can properly engage with the jewellery and watch collections. Being part of Jarrolds allows us to offer that experience to a wider audience, without changing how we work or the level of service we are known for and we look forward to welcoming both new and long standing customers.”
The official opening takes place on Tuesday 12 May, with a full display of collections available from launch. Dipples and Jarrolds are inviting customers to visit the new space, discover the latest designs and celebrate a new chapter in the story of two trusted Norwich retailers.
