Retail Trends: Chris Ellis, Dipples Jewellers

Across Norfolk and Suffolk, like many parts of the world, a quiet shift is taking place in how people choose to express personal style and mark life’s milestones. Jewellery and watches are no longer just adornments, they’re becoming statements of identity, values and craftsmanship.

Looking forward to the next 12 months, the trends point toward understated elegance, ethical sourcing and pieces that feel genuinely personal.

Chunky chains, fluid silhouettes and vintage-inspired brooches are also gaining traction, with Italian brand FOPE leading the way in tactile mesh designs that balance strength with softness. Georg Jensen’s daisy brooches and enamel dragonflies offer a playful contrast, bringing colour and movement in sterling silver to minimalist wardrobes.

It seems that ethical sparkle is no longer niche; recycled gold and responsibly mined diamonds are becoming standard across many of our premium collections. Personalisation is also key, with engraving services allowing our customers to add initials or messages that turn a piece into a keepsake.

For me, the trend is clear: jewellery is being chosen not just for how it looks, but also for what it says.

Smaller case sizes and refined geometry are replacing oversized styles, with Longines and Baume & Mercier embracing elegant proportions. Dial colours are warming up, with copper, emerald and deep blues offering depth and distinction. These tones pair well with all types of wardrobes, making them versatile choices for collectors and first-time buyers alike.

Sustainability is gaining ground in watchmaking too. Garmin’s solar-powered hybrid models combine performance with conscience, appealing to those who value innovation without compromise. Bremont’s aviation-inspired watches continue to impress with shock resistance and magnetic protection, while Gucci’s designs bring couture flair to the wrist.

Tradition and innovation

At the heart of this movement is Dipples Jewellers. We have spent decades sourcing distinctive pieces from London, Switzerland and beyond, curating collections that reflect both global trends and local sensibilities. People are choosing pieces that feel personal and considered, and whether it’s a sculptural bracelet or a solar-powered watch, the emphasis is on quality and meaning. And we are here to help clients find something that resonates.

Through our showrooms in Norwich, Dereham and Bury St Edmunds, Dipples offers a retail experience that blends tradition with innovation, offering private jewellery and watch consultations for those seeking guidance on gifts, milestone celebrations or personal investment pieces.

As a fifth-generation family business, our longevity is rooted in our relationships – with customers, suppliers and the wider business community. I want to ensure Dipples remains a trusted name in East Anglia’s retail landscape for years to come.
