What if there was a recipe for success in business?

That was the question posed by internationally recognised leadership expert, author, and Global Gurus Top 10 Leadership Thinker, Gordon Tredgold, when he was the keynote speaker at our Essex Director event in September 2026.

Titled “The best failures to learn from are someone else’s”, his entertaining, thought-provoking and highly practical presentation captivated an audience of business owners, directors and senior leaders gathered at Essex Business School in Colchester.

Drawing on decades of leadership experience, Gordon shared his renowned FAST Leadership™ methodology, a framework built around four key principles: Focus, Accountability, Simplicity and Transparency.

At a time when many organisations are facing increasing complexity and constant change, Gordon challenged delegates to consider whether they are focusing their time and energy on the activities that genuinely drive results. Through a series of engaging stories, practical examples and lessons learned from both successes and failures, he demonstrated how the FAST principles can help leaders achieve more by doing less, communicating more effectively and creating stronger, more accountable teams.

Focus, Gordon explained, is about identifying what matters most and ensuring that people throughout the organisation understand the priorities.
Accountability creates ownership and responsibility, ensuring that individuals and teams are empowered to deliver results and learn from setbacks.
Simplicity was perhaps one of the most memorable themes of the morning. Gordon highlighted how businesses often overcomplicate processes, objectives and communication, when the most effective solutions are frequently the simplest. This message clearly resonated with delegates, with several commenting afterwards on the power of simplifying leadership and decision-making.
Finally, Transparency encourages openness, honesty and clear communication, building trust within teams and enabling organisations to move forward with confidence.

Throughout the session, Gordon reinforced the idea that while failure is inevitable in business, the smartest leaders are those who learn from the experiences of others. His message was clear: if you can apply the FAST principles consistently, many common business challenges can be avoided altogether.

The combination of practical advice, humour and real-world experience made for a highly engaging keynote, leaving attendees with valuable insights and actionable takeaways that could be implemented immediately within their own organisations.
