Business News: Speedy Fixings
Speedy Fixings Ltd, based in Colchester, has announced the appointment of Shaun Cook as its new Managing Director. He is taking over from Founder and previous MD, Kevin Burgess, who will be gradually stepping back after 25 years in the business.
Launched in 2000, the company originally began trading as BIG (Brackets and Bolts) Ltd, supplying bracketry and metalwork from its home at Whitehall Industrial Estate in Colchester. Today, as Speedy Fixings, the business is based on Severalls Industrial Park and has become a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of screws, bolts, metalwork, hand tools and accessories to the construction industry.
The next chapter
Shaun joined the business in 2014 and hit the ground running, getting involved in all aspects of the business, from general sales and delivery driving, to warehouse and workshop assistant.
He quickly established himself as an invaluable asset and in 2021 became a Shareholder and Director.
Today, his new appointment as Managing Director marks the culmination of a 12-month process, which has seen Shaun taking on more control of the day-to-day running of the business.
Kevin says: “I am very proud of what we have achieved so far, but now, after many years running the company, I feel that it is time for the business to thrive under new leadership.
“So, with immediate effect, I am passing the mantle of Managing Director to Shaun, who is not only a great business colleague, but has also become a good friend.
“I believe that Shaun has the skills, vision and tenacity to continue growing the business, and I have no doubt that he will bring the same work ethic to the role as myself. I know he is committed to ensuring that the best customer service and attention to detail is provided throughout the company – a value which will continue to be the most important focus for us in the years ahead.”
Shaun is delighted to be taking over the helm and comments: “It is a tremendous vote of confidence to be trusted with the legacy that Kevin has built with Speedy Fixings. We are going from strength to strength in our performance, with some of our best sales results being achieved in 2024. My hope is that I can continue to lead the team to further develop our product range, as well as sustaining existing and forging new partnerships, and ensuring our clients have everything they need to get their projects across the line.”
Moving forward, Kevin will continue to work a few hours each week, mainly helping with the online side of the business.
He adds: “I want to take this opportunity to say a big ‘thank you’ for all the support from customers, suppliers and my team throughout the years, and I look forward to staying in touch and seeing the future success of Speedy Fixings under Shaun’s leadership.”
