Incorporated in February 2018, the business is led by ex-teacher, Denise and headteacher, Heidi, who met at antenatal classes when expecting their first children over 12 years ago. Together they have over 20 years’ experience in education and as well as strong organisational capability, the pair have a strong skill set in terms of working with a wide range of stakeholders.
Wild Play was initially aimed at schools and children aged between 5-11 years, but it was soon clear that what was being provided went so much deeper and extended to people of all ages.
The business capitalised on the opportunity and developed, so as well as offering support for schools and pre-schools with its ‘Outdoor Learning & Forest School’, it also offered ‘Explorers Holiday Club’ for children aged 5 to 11, ‘Sunday Club’ for children with additional learning needs, ‘Muddy Hogs’, a toddler group, and ‘Natures Newborns’ for – you guessed it – parents with new-born babies.
Bespoke party and family events are also proving to be very popular, with no two events ever the same. There are more offerings in the pipeline too.
“A strong moral purpose runs through everything we offer,” explained Heidi.
“There is a raft of research underpinning each element of our business and it doesn’t just apply to children. Working with people of all ages, including community groups and charity organisations means that we are extending our vision to reach as many people as possible.”
Corporate ‘Feel Good’ days have also now been added because grown-ups need to play too!
“It’s good to get away from the office and amongst the ‘Green Stuff’…you’ll feel and function so much better. Who says Board meetings can’t take place outdoors by the campfire?
“Businesses have a duty of care to their employees and it is important to fulfil this in a meaningful manner. It is also important for CEOs and managers to address their own wellbeing needs.
“Feel Good days are all about choice and our aim is for clients to leave the woodland feeling a good deal better than when they arrived. Everything is bespoke and is tailored to the needs of the organisation.
“Attention to detail underpins our business; from the relationship we have with our clients, the services we offer and our distinct branding.”
Wild Play’s first year of trading has been a whirlwind. And, a fantastic accolade to its hard work, commitment and vision came with the acknowledgement from Theo Paphitis in becoming part of his #SBS (Small Business Sunday) community.
“We often get asked if we really do have as much fun as our social media pages suggest…and the answer is yes we certainly do!”
