Spotlight on Lee Steward, Morrison Freight
With a long-standing interest in local grassroots football, Lee has managed teams in the Ipswich and Suffolk Football League for several years. As previous manager for Henley Athletic, he now sits on the committee and plays an active role in the club by regularly attending matches. As a company, Morrison Freight now sponsors the men’s first team and reserves.
Lee also really enjoys architectural antiques. Visiting antique fairs, shops and salvage yards has become a hobby of his over the years.
Describe yourself in three words? Resourceful, driven
and passionate.
What was your first job? I was an office junior at J&J. Denholm Ltd. I had to learn the ropes under some very experienced people and looking back this taught me some valuable lessons which have helped me throughout my career.
What frustrates you? A lack of business etiquette. Business and work is hard enough, so being polite and courteous shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
How do you spend your leisure time? I enjoy visiting National Trust and English Heritage sites with my family. At weekends you will either find me at antique fairs, flea markets or watching local grassroots football.
What’s your favourite television programme? It’s a
three-way tie between Salvage Hunters, Antiques Road Trip, or Only Fools and Horses.
What’s your favourite food? Sea bass with chilli.
What food do you hate? Anything bland.
What is your biggest weakness? Finding that work-life balance can sometimes be very difficult.
Where are you happiest? Spending a day at the theatre, followed by a nice meal with my wife, Simona and twin daughters, Avah and Freya.
What was the first record you bought? It was a long time ago, but I think it would have been Bad by Michael Jackson.
At school, what were you good at? Looking back, I really enjoyed sports so I would say anything sporty. I also liked working with numbers, so I suppose I was ok at mathematics too.
What one material thing could you not do without?
My bankcard.
You’d go to a fancy-dress party as? Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses. I love the character David Jason plays.
What poster did you have on your bedroom wall as a child? Clive Allen – I support Tottenham Hotspur and during the 80’s, he was the player I followed and looked up to most.
How many attempts before you passed your driving test? Just one. I never really worried about failing and I suppose not worrying about it helped me as I passed first time.
