Renewable Energy: Sarah Gallagher, Greenscape Energy
We talk about trust a lot in business, but for me, it’s not just a word – it’s how you show up every day through actions, honesty and consistency. Trust isn’t built in a single conversation; it’s built over time through the way you communicate and how you make people feel.
After twenty years in the corporate world within insurance and recruitment operations, I joined Greenscape Energy six years ago because I wanted to make a difference – to customers and to people.
Every customer who chooses solar or a heat pump is making a big investment, both emotionally and financially, and they’re trusting us to guide them through a process that can sometimes feel uncertain and overwhelming.
That trust is fragile. It relies on simple things: keeping customers informed, setting realistic expectations and following through on what we promise. When something goes wrong, how we respond makes the biggest difference. Customers don’t expect perfection; they expect communication and ownership. It’s not always the technical fix that matters most, but the human one.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that feedback – both compliments and complaints – is a powerful way to build trust. When customers take the time to share their experience, it shows they believe their voice matters. Compliments reinforce trust by confirming we consistently deliver on our promises; complaints strengthen it when we listen, take ownership and follow through with meaningful action. Feedback isn’t just a transactional exchange – it’s an ongoing relationship. By acting on what we hear and read, we turn every interaction into a chance to show customers their trust in us is well placed.
Establish a culture
Of course, trust doesn’t just exist between a company and its customers – it must start internally. You can’t deliver a great customer experience without trust between teams and an open, honest leadership and business culture. My leadership style has always been firm but fair – setting clear expectations while ensuring people feel supported and are trusted to achieve. That balance builds confidence and accountability, creating a space where people genuinely want to do their best.
As Head of Customer Experience and Business Improvement, my focus is continuously improving how we do things, not through sweeping changes, but small, meaningful improvements that build trust and make life easier for both customers and our people.
The renewable energy industry is growing fast, and customers are placing more trust than ever in companies like ours. In a sector driven by power and technology, it is easy to forget that the real energy comes from people, relationships, honesty, reliability and, of course, trust.
For me, trust is the simplest word with the biggest impact. It turns customers into advocates, teams into collaborators, and challenges into opportunities to grow. At the end of the day, trust isn’t something you ask for; it’s something you earn through actions, consistency and care.
