About Matt
Matt met his wife, Sarah, at Lotus and they have been married for 21 years. They have two children aged 19 and 16, and Digby their cockapoo makes up the family.
Having taken a break to work for Tesla, Nissan and Caterham, Matt returned to Lotus in 2017. In the last four years he held several senior positions in the business, latterly as Executive Director, Engineering before being promoted to Managing Director in January 2021.
Q&A
Describe yourself in three words? Driven, open, compassionate.
What was your first job? A free newspaper delivery round where I was paid 1p for each of the 300 papers I delivered.
What frustrates you? People not keeping to commitments they have made.
How do you spend your leisure time? I like to keep fit by running, cycling and walking. Family time is very important to me and enables me to relax away from my busy job.
What’s your favourite television programme? Line of Duty, I will watch anything with blue lights.
What’s your favourite food? Italian
What food do you hate? Brussel Sprouts
What is your biggest weakness? Crisps
Where are you happiest? By the sea. I grew up in a small village on the Kent coast and being by the sea is my happy place. I also have a Day Skipper licence, so we sail in Greece every year which makes us all very happy.
What was the first record you bought? Hysteria by Def Leppard.
At school, what were you good at? Technical drawing.
What one material thing could you not do without? Sadly now if I want to read, it is my glasses!
You’d go to a fancy-dress party as? The last time was as Freddie Mercury.
What poster did you have on your bedroom wall as a child? A Lotus Esprit.
How many attempts before you passed your driving test? I passed first time.
