Working in a variety of sectors, including commercial, residential, community, leisure, and education, Phil enjoys assisting and growing his valued client base. Phil lives in the Suffolk village of Boxford with his wife and two sons.
Q&As
Describe yourself in three words? Honest, candid, and driven.
What was your first job? My first experience of work was when my older brother and I established and ran a small bicycle repair business from our father’s garage. While our customer base was mainly people from the surrounding villages, at the time it felt much larger, as I was only around 12 years old.
What frustrates you? Lack of punctuality. I always try to be on time.
How do you spend your leisure time? I have always been a keen cyclist, and especially enjoy off road riding in Thetford Forest, which is a regular trail for me with family and friends. I also enjoy walking with my family, both locally in Suffolk, and whilst on holiday in the UK and abroad.
What’s your favourite television programme? I don’t really have a favourite TV show – there are too many to choose from! However, I do enjoy an absorbing thriller box set.
What’s your favourite food? I have always been a huge fan of Indian food and will never turn down the offer of a good curry!
What food do you hate? I can’t really think of a food that I actually hate; however, I have an aversion to semolina, having been made to finish it regularly at primary school.
What is your biggest weakness? Peanut butter on toast in the evening!
Where are you happiest? Relaxing at our beach hut in Old Felixstowe with family and friends. This is actually another of my favourite pastimes, and I find a day on our Suffolk coast quickly and easily transports us all from the day-to-day.
What was the first record you bought? That’s an easy one…Paul Hardcastle’s 19.
At school, what were you good at? One of my favourite subjects at high school was Design and Technology, and this is where my passion for Architecture started in earnest. I always enjoyed my DT projects, and it was probably the subject in which I produced my best work.
What one material thing could you not do without? I do love to read at night, even if it’s only a chapter before I fall asleep. I always have a pile of fiction by the bed and couldn’t do without a good book.
You’d go to a fancy-dress party as? The last fancy dress party I went to (which had a 60s theme), I dressed up as Paul McCartney (Sgt Pepper era).
What poster did you have on your bedroom wall as a child? I grew up during the early space shuttle era, and I had a large poster of the Space Shuttle Columbia on my bedroom wall. I guess in another life, that could have inspired me towards a different career!
How many attempts before you passed your driving test? As with all the best drivers, first time!
