Just seven years after opening in Chelmsford with no acquisition or inherited client base, Ellisons has moved into larger, fully refurbished offices in the city. And this move is about more than extra space.

When we opened here, there was no client base waiting and no big merger fanfare. It was a leap of faith; an opportunity to be part of Chelmsford’s story and support its growing community of ambitious SMEs and private clients.

Fast forward to 2025 and that faith has been rewarded. Chelmsford has become one of Essex’s most dynamic commercial hubs, attracting entrepreneurs, scale-ups and inward investment. Our own journey has mirrored that growth. Demand for services has risen year on year, bringing new partners, specialists and team members who share our vision of what a modern, full-service law firm should deliver.

Space to offer more

Now we have moved to a larger office in County House, New London Road. The space allows us to bring more expertise together under one roof. Corporate and commercial, employment, litigation, real estate and private client teams will work side by side to support the businesses and individuals who rely on us.

But growth is not about size alone. It is about investing in our clients and our people, building something sustainable for the next generation of professionals entering the firm. It is also about creating a workplace where collaboration, innovation and high standards are part of everyday life.

Chelmsford’s team is led by a strong partnership group committed to that mission. Alongside myself, partners Paul Forsyth and Ross Wiltshire have been instrumental in shaping our presence in the city. More recently, we have welcomed Phil Slater, Jonathan Insley and Ian Johnston to the partnership, each bringing fresh expertise and energy to Ellisons.

That focus on values is at the heart of our strategy. We talk often about creating a ‘legacy culture’ – a firm fit for today and thriving for generations to come. The move to modern premises reflects that investment in our values, our clients and our people. We are also committed to apprenticeships, career progression pathways and academy programmes, offering talented people the opportunity to build their careers here. This was recognised when we achieved Great Place to Work accreditation, reflecting the positive culture across the firm.

Our approach to client service follows the same joined-up thinking. Business owners do not have time for fragmented advice or multiple advisers. We put clients at the heart of everything we do, collaborating with accountants, consultants and other professionals to provide clear, commercially aware solutions, not just options. Our aim is to build long-term trust, support clients and remain firmly in their corner for years to come. This move is a clear commitment to that objective.

This next phase in Chelmsford is exciting, not just for Ellisons but for the city’s business community. We would love to welcome you to the new space, show you around and talk about how we can support you or your business in the years ahead.
