With a successful management buyout under its belt and a programme of investment in staff training and development well underway, SMART is now ramping up its recruitment campaign to expand and improve its operations.

As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of quality garden building solutions, the Thurston-based company has built up an enviable record for innovation and quality over its 17 years of operation through combining modern state-of-the-art building techniques and materials, alongside traditional craftsmanship skills.

The new management team of Matt Moss, Sue Phillips and Paul Sheppard have ambitious plans to build on this heritage by growing the business both in term of quality and quantity of inputs and outputs.

To deliver these growth objectives, without compromising on quality, the company has recently invested in intense training programmes for four middle managers.

Sales & Marketing director Sue Phillips said: “SMART provides attractive and well-crafted solutions to people’s space problems, allowing them to work and live better in a way that is more suited to their needs.

“We know that our customers expect the very best from us in all aspects of what we do: from the quality of our six product lines to the quality of our customer service. That is why we are now boosting the customer side of that experience.”

SMART has started to deliver on this promise by successfully recruiting a top level sales administrator, Valerie McLernon-Cracknell and two highly experienced project managers, Scott Latham and Lucy Simpson.

All three will provide a range of professional services to SMART customers to ensure their experiences of using the company are of the highest quality. The role of the project managers is especially innovative as they will assist SMART customers through the whole process of installing a garden room, including obtaining planning where necessary, ensuring a smooth and timely operation from groundworks to completion.

“Lucy, Scott and Valerie’s experience and values are very much those of SMART and their appointment will help us further enhance the customer experience. We’re delighted they are all onboard” added Sue.

Matt Moss, SMART’s managing director, said: “It’s all about getting the right people with the right attitudes and the right support to help us deliver not only great products but great customer service as well. That is the SMART promise.”
